As the Light Makes Its Way
For those whose time has come to undertake the work they came here to do
I imagine there are many reading this whose time has come to undertake the work they came here to do. Each pointing to the possibility of the interior world directing the exterior. To the possibility of the inner world causing us to act so very differently. To the possibility of the soul lived out in plain view.
These words are for you, and as my microphone is now back and working well I have recorded the words.
An Introductory Note. I wrote this as a contribution for a book entitled ‘100 Words‘. The focus was ‘What the World Needs Now’. There were 200 contributors including the likes of Jane Goodall, Alice Walker, David Steindl-Rast, Neale Donald Walsh, Van Jones, Jean Houston, Lynne McTaggart, and Ben Okri. It was compiled by philanthropist William Murtha following a near death experience, from where he became fascinated on how we each might make a positive impact on the world.
As The Light Makes Its Way
A man had lived in his imagination.
Ever since he was a boy.
For it was full of wonder and adventure
when set against the outer world
that housed his everyday life.
His imagination surrounded him in light.
The outer world, in a darker shade.
But as he waited for this outer world
to catch the light,
he realized that it might not.
And so he stepped out into the world,
hand in hand with his imagination.
Knowing that together they would
bring light to the darkest of corners.
And he is you. And me.
And together, the imagination of
our collective soul has already
begun its inevitable work.
As the light makes its way
towards the experience
of the world.
I’ve included the words above in a twice spoke audio loop for those who may find such a thing useful. Perhaps for those who recognize the words (however distantly) but may have not yet formed, spoken or admitted their mission out loud
For those who see their reflection in these words, however distantly, feel at liberty to write in the comments below.
Wise words were spoken to me last week as I asked, "how do I accept destructive behaviors in those I love". I share these wise words now as I purposefully, and as best I can, live the light of "I Am That", which we all are. The wisdom teacher said, "You go on and live your joyful, beautiful life. It naturally will effect and rub off on those you love. And if it doesn't?... You still have your joyful, beautiful life."
Let me just say that this is not the first of your beautiful poems that I have needed to print and hang on my wall for further and ongoing reference. Thank you for sharing yourSelf so openly, Nic.
(And no, that is not a typo... I write mySelf often and, in this case, it's yourSelf.)
Blessings, Lily
