I cannot remember whether I shot this film first then wrote the riddle (below) as part of it, or if I wrote it beforehand and then made the film. Either way know this, that the fascinating thing about riddles is that you can stare at them intently and completely miss their point. And often, a riddle will fool you into the illusion of an understanding. This is a short film about the nature and whereabouts of joy. I remember my time with Charan Anand as if it were now, yet I believe it might have been 2006. It has not screened in a long time.
The Riddle Of Here
We're looking. For something so simple.
So simple, that we can't hold it in
our hands. Or in our heads.
So we look to him. To her.
To them. To there.
We look to everywhere
but here.
To when. To then.
But not to now.
It's hidden just beyond
our cleverness.
So we presume it's
out there.
But perhaps it's in here.

‘... the moment I think I’m above something that engenders its opposite immediately. You can’t have above without below. It causes a split in the psyche. I think the source wound of modernity is supremacy.’ Natureza Gabriel
43 seconds from a film coming soon - ‘The Underlying Human Ailment’. This is the first time I’ve ever insisted that a film subject remove their shoes and socks and bury their feet in the earth. It seems Gabriel was speaking on behalf of the earth, so this seemed appropriate.
The riddle is so now!
Joy, connection and compassion can be the three compass bearings that help us discern the plan and path that our loving and wise higher power has for us.
Life does happen to or for us - it happens through us!
Thanks Nic.
