This is a dramatic story that had set its course with the loss of the subject’s Mother at the hands of one of Britain’s most notorious criminals of the last Century.

‘the person I am is the person that’s trying to understand those series of events. I am not those series of events’.

The film points to a human resilience which I believe to be more common than we suppose. Told through Richard McCann’s uncommon depth of observation. An observation that appears at times to happen in front of the camera for the first time.

This film does far more than simply fill nine minutes.

‘there was this awareness. There was this something inside me that would say ‘don’t worry this is all happening for a reason. You won’t know what it is yet but it will become apparent at some point.’

We filmed in a long forgotten hotel somewhere between the North and South of England. 2006. It was the first time Richard and I had met. This is usually the case when making a film.

‘my life as it has been was for that reason, so that I’d understand what I am, what I’m here for and what I’m a part of.’

Watch this film and wonder ‘what am I, why am I here and what am I part of?’
